The Life and Times of Cornelius Cardew, 2009
Text (in three parts) with nine photographs, table. 48" x 48" x 36"
The texts in this table were derived from interviews with three music historians on the biography of composer Cornelius Cardew. Conducted in a stream-of-consciousness style with a lengthy, imposed time limit, the dialogues conflated the roles of interviewer and analyst. The resulting texts are passable academic histories, yet full of personal judgments, self-doubt, and occasional rambling anecdotes. Each side of this triangular table contains the condensed text of one interviewee's rendition of Cardew’s biography, from start to finish. Each caption is accompanied by a photograph- some fabricated, others found.
